Superior Protection
Clifton Steel’s heat treated military steel armor plate is fully Department of Defense (DOD) approved. Our enhanced in-house heat treat lines produce quenched and tempered armor steel plate. The lines allow for improved control of product, quicker response time, and the ability to offer special heat treated plate sizes that can reduce our customers’ overall cost of manufacturing.
Heat Treated Armor Steel Plate Specifications
MIL-DTL-12560 Rev K
MIL DTL 12560 (supersedes MIL A 12560) heat treated plate is designed for ballistic resistance as well as defending against IEDs (improvised explosive devices). Often referred to as RHA (Rolled Homogenous Armor), our stock is always available in the latest revision; however, we are able to supply previous revisions to support past vehicle platforms. We stock this particular heat treated plate product in sizes that allow it to be laser ready without the need to be cut down from a larger plate or to perform additional surface cleaning.

Hardness
MIL A 12560 hardness varies based on thickness and class.
Forming
Minimum bend inside radius based on thickness anywhere from 4t to 12t (where t is the plate thickness).
Cutting
MIL A 12560 steel can be cut with plasma, oxy-Acetylene, laser, and water jet, as well as with abrasive cut off saws.
Machining
Drilling, countersinking, counterboring, tapping, milling, and general machining can be done with conventional equipment and carbide tools.
MIL-DTL-46100 REV E
MIL DTL 46100 (supersedes MIL A 46100) heat treated plate has high hardness properties that provide excellent resistance to penetration. These well-known properties have led to this grade being referred to as HHA (High Hardness Armor). Clifton Steel stocks and produces some of the lightest gauges available in this product. We also stock this particular heat treated plate in sizes that allow it to be laser ready without the need to cut down from a larger plate or need additional surface cleaning.
