Clifton Steel provides prompt delivery of freight and transit cars, locomoive truck and coupler wear plates, liners, and shims. Extensive fabrication experience with 11-14% manganese steel, prompt service, and low cost makes Clifton a tough competitive contender for railroad car builder and repair shop business.

In addition to the many AAR standard wear plate products listed here, we also offer custom specifications for the repair shop. Clifton produces not only high manganese steel fabrications, but also wear parts of carbon, low alloy, stainless, and other corrosion-wear-resistant materials. In-house capability for complete fabrications provides cost-saving, ready-to-install wear parts, saving the car builder and repair shop both time and cost, and also assuring precision, long-wearing truck and coupler assemblies.

Delivery from Stock
Most AAR standard truck and coupler wear plates, shims such as center plate liners, brake beam pocket liners, and pedestal roof liners can be shipped from Clifton's completed parts inventories, saving car builders and repair shops time and costs.

Fabrication
Clifton fabricating features use of modern cutting, welding, drilling, forming, and heat-treating equipment.

Manganese Steel Specialists
Clifton maintains one of the largest 11-14% manganese steel bar and plate inventories to be found in the Great Lakes area. Clifton also carries other wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant alloys, including carbon steel, high alloy, and stainless.




Renewable Center Plate Liner from manganese steel, also center plate shims, are available from 1/16" through 3/8" to fit standard AAR center plate dimensions. Most sizes shipped from stock.

Vertical Wear Ring supplied open or welded. Optional stainless or manganese steel. Supplied in any thickness or width. Standard sizes available from inventory.

Body Side Bearing Plates and Shims can be supplies for standard side bearings or to customer specifications.

Side Frame Column Wear Plates feature standard tolerances or precision slot and hole locations suitable for robotic welding; custom drilled and chamfered; for all populat truck types.

Brake Beam Pocket Liners are fabricated to fit standard truck designs. Produced to customer's specifications.

Bolster Pocket Plates are supplied for all makes of freight car trucks.

Pedestal Roof Liners are produced to AAR standards. Plates are drilled and chamfered to customer specification with precision hole locations.


Center Plate Liner-- All popular center plate liner sizes are carried in stock. Custom sizes are supplied to specification

Pedestal Leg Liners are supplied for both transit and locomotive trucks. Transit applications feature manganese steel made to order. Other materials can be supplied.

Journal Box Wear Liners supplied in manganese, SAE 1095, and ASTM grades.

Bolster and Frame Wear Plates fabricated and stocked by Clifton Steel. These are carried to meet customers' immediate delivery needs.

Motor Nose Support Plates carried in a complete size range.

Heat Treating
Quenched and tempered bars and structurals ar supplied from the Pittsburgh plant. Twinsburg fabricating practices include weld preheating, stress relieving after cutting, and hardening.

Drilling and Chamfering
Clifton Steel drills quenched and tempered plate with hardness to 500 Brinnell; also manganese steel plate and SAE 1095.

Warehouse Facilities
Part of Clifton's 123,000 s.f. warehouse facilities combining the Twinsburg and Pittsburgh plants. In excess of 6000 T of special plate and bar stock is available.

Forming and Shearing
Key to economical parts fabrication is use of modern cost-effective equipment such as a new precision hydro-mechanical 3/4-in. by 12 ft. shear. The machine is capable of shearing steel plate up to 400 Brinnell hardness.
