About Us

Fast, effective, quality service---
the Clifton commitment to every customer.

Our Goal is Your Success.

Clifton Steel has years of experience in fabricating quenched and tempered alloy and 11-14% manganese steel to the most exacting requirements. Everything from the smallest precision parts to the largest and most intricate shapes burned from heavy armor plate with drilled and countersunk holes on precise center Clifton does it routinely. And Clifton does it with quality assurance unexcelled in the industry we employ the same stringent quality control standards for our commercial orders under MIL-I-45208A as we do for our military contracts with the Department of Defense.

Fabrication

Recognized specialists in wear-resistant steel fabrication, especially quenched and tempered and 11-14% manganese steels, Clifton's state-of-the-art in-house capacity is comprehensive, including cutting, welding, drilling, and heat-treating.

Comprehensive standard mill shape inventory

a full range of quenched and tempered alloy and manganese steel, including mill-rolled structural shapes, plates, rounds and flats, all conforming to our exceptionally tight hardness and physical property specifications. We are a steel service center, but so much more.

Replacement and OEM Parts

Whether inventoried or quickly precision-fabricated for any industrial application, including military, railroad, automotive and truck, farm equipment, utility, mining, foundry and forging, or pulp and paper mills, it all comes with the Clifton guarantee of quick delivery from our full inventory of military-approved and mill-certified steel.

Strategic Location

With supply and fabricating facilities in Cleveland and Phoenix, Clifton has expanded nationally to deliver its unique combination of steel products at competitive prices with low freight rates and fast delivery. Clifton takes the 'service' in 'steel service' seriously.

Flame Cutting

We flame cut plate to any desired length up to 15 inches in thickness and 120 inches in width. For heavy plate burning, preheated and postheating are our standard processes to assure clean cuts without stress cracking at the edges. At Clifton, quality is the standard, not an option.

Clifton's multiple burning tables are equipped with dry and underwater capacity for plasma, high-definition plasma, and oxyacetylene burning. We also employ state-of-the-art electric eye, pantograph machines and computer numerically controlled (CNC) systems with multiple torches that can simultaneously produce up to 32 duplicate pieces. A clear benefit for Clifton customers: less manufacturing time and resultant lower costs.

Shearing: Clifton can shear ballistically approved armor plate and Q&T steel up to 400BHN; on small parts, a minimum tolerance of ± 0.020 inches can be held. The firm's unique equipment routinely shear plate up to 144 inches wide and up to 3/8 inch thickness in 400 Brinell materials.

Sawing: Band and hack saw capacity is in place with cutting capacity up to 24 inches in diameter. Rotary carbide saw capability handles all manganese rounds up to 4 inches in diameter.

Drilling: Even through 15-inch-thick plate, Clifton can drill and countersink holes from 1/4 inch to 5 inches in diameter. Fast, efficient, and exact.

Welding: Our capacity encompasses an entire range of manual and automated welding technologies, including TIG and MIG for manganese and other steel alloys. Pre-heating, full-edge preparation and post-weld stress relieving are our standard processes, not expensive options.

Heat Treating: For customers who machine quenched and tempered plate, we can stress-relieve or retemper components after burning or fabricating. Clifton's heat treat furnaces handle parts up to 40 feet long and 8 feet wide. Quenching and tempering of alloy structural shapes up to 42 feet in length is done every day! Our furnace's jig-quenching facilites handle everything from angles and channels to wide flange and cambered beams.
